As a full time professor, Dr. Eigen's research focused on understanding exchange between organizations and individuals. This included studying contracts, labor and employment law, negotiations and dispute resolution. Often employing empirical methodologies, with a focus on experimentation, Dr. Eigen grounded his work in theories emergent from economic-sociology and social-exchange theory.
